Alton Sterling /circulation
I am silenced
not by bullets.
as
Black Men
are.
I am silenced because
I am choking.
I am choking
on my
White Privilege.
because my colorlessness keeps me safe
sometimes.
my Caucasian existence-
These words
can not
get out.
I can’t get these fucking words out.
and. it feels like. it doesn't matter.
My words.
Because
it's not my words
that are bleeding
today.
My white privilege
gives me words
that are lodged in my throat
that now circulate Facebook
while
another video
circulates
of
Another
Black
Life
taken.
Alton Sterling.
Alton Sterling's life.
Alton Sterling's blood
no longer circulates his body.
His blood circulates the streets
Of The Land
Of The Free
of the Fourth of July barbecue.
Alton Sterling's blood
deserves more than this.
this fucking poem that I try to write because I live with
Gay White Male Freedom
which is more than-
it's not
bullets
at a deli
on a Wednesday
.
.
.
.
.
If you’re not choking on your white privilege
a bullet is irrelevant
to your
circulation
because
you have no blood to bleed.
because your blood circulates your life
while
Alton's Sterling's bleeding
circulates
your freedom.
